BYOT - Bring Your Own Team
Stripe, a US based mobile payments provider, is asking for existing teams of 2-5 people to apply for positions. They're effectively hiring teams instead of individuals. They say it's an innovative new approach, although headhunters have been doing this on the QT for decades.

Stripe are going public with the strategy. They say they want established teams, but it could also do a lot of damage to competitors if it's successful.

Watch that spelling
According to recruitment firm BeHiring one spelling or grammar mistake will result in your CV being thrown in the bin. In the same survey the first CV arrives 200 seconds after a job is posted and 250 are received for each job posted.

On the social side 76% of CVs are ignored if an email address is unprofessional and, if you get past all of that, 68% of potential employers will check you out on Facebook.

Recruiting articles get views
I'm running Lenses in marketing, training and recruitment at the moment and it seems that recruitment is the most interesting subject, with articles getting three times the views that other subjects do.

Will you be replaced by a robot?
This question is doing the rounds again, with particular focus on recent advances in AI. It's been a popular theme since the 70s, when we were promised that technological advances would mean that we would be working half days thanks to computers and we would spend the rest of the time at leisure. It never happened?

How is it any different now?

Is email a complete waste of time?
Peter Fleming, professor of Business and Society at Cass Business School claims that the average British worker spends 36 days each year answering emails and that workers in London are receiving close to 9,000 emails a year on average.

Something has gone horribly wrong hasn't it?

Young and unemployed
In all the employment figure good news it's worth bearing in mind that employment of younger workers has not yet recovered to pre-2008 levels, when it wasn't that great anyway.

Because of the nature of the jobs involved young people (16-24 years old) often compete for the same jobs as older people. Government labour market policies have enabled / forced older people to stay in work for longer so that a full two thirds of the increase in employment since 2010 has been for those aged 50 and over.
