Directors feeling the pressure on pay
A survey by Deloitte has found that three quarters of Britain's top companies have rethought their pay policies, influenced by shareholder pressure and, most likely with more effect given that shareholders have been pressuring for years, the introduction of a binding vote on remuneration by the government which gives them more power.

The driving force behind the reforms that have increased shareholder influence is the business secretary, Vince Cable, possibly the UK's most effective politician.
