Teacher recruitment shortfall
For the third year running the government is set to miss its target for trainee teachers across primary and secondary schools. 30,510 trainees have been enrolled into teacher training in 2014-15 so far, a shortfall of more than 4,000 on the target and 7,700 fewer than in 2010.

One of the influences may be increasing employment opportunities in the private sector. When the recession started in 2008 there were reports of people leaving business to go into teaching.

The govt. seem to have turned what should be a most noble and rewarding profession into a bureaucratic quagmire from what I hear from teachers. There's also gender stereotyping which is putting men off from teaching, especially in primary schools which have become female only domains.
